The American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) hosted a State Capitol Iftar Dinner in Richmond, Virginia, on March 3, 2026, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, bringing together public officials, faith leaders, and community members during the holy month of Ramadan.
The evening welcomed a distinguished group of guests, including Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi, Attorney General Jay Jones, five Virginia State Secretaries, and more than 40 Senators and Delegates, along with leaders from public service, business, and diverse faith communities across Virginia. The gathering provided a meaningful opportunity for dialogue, friendship, and reflection during Ramadan while strengthening relationships among Virginia’s civic and community leaders.
Earlier in the day, the ATFA delegation was recognized on both the Virginia House and Senate floors. ATFA extends its sincere gratitude to Delegate Karrie Delaney and Senator Stella Pekarsky for their support and for facilitating this recognition.
ATFA also expresses appreciation for the encouraging letters and messages shared for the evening by U.S. Senator Mark Warner, Lieutenant Governor Hashmi, and Secretary of the Commonwealth Candi Mundon King. Their words of encouragement and appreciation were deeply meaningful to the ATFA community.
Reflecting the spirit of Ramadan, the evening brought together individuals from different faith traditions and political backgrounds in an atmosphere of respect, dialogue, and solidarity. The program was made possible through the dedication of ATFA volunteers, including many youth leaders, whose efforts helped highlight ATFA’s ongoing commitment to interfaith dialogue, community service, and civic engagement across Virginia.
