ATFA Hosts Educational Seminar on U.S. History as Part of the America250 and VA250 Commemorations

On June 9, 2026, the American Turkish Friendship Association (ATFA) hosted an educational seminar titled “Milestones in U.S. History: A Perspective on America250,” presented by Dr. Andrew Walker White, Adjunct Faculty in the History, Art History, Classics, and Religious Studies Departments at George Mason University.

The seminar brought together community members for an engaging exploration of the historical foundations that shaped the United States. Through his dynamic storytelling and unique presentation style, Dr. White guided participants through key historical developments, including the influence of the Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights, and the religious fragmentation and conflicts that emerged in Europe. These historical experiences provided important context for understanding how the Founding Fathers envisioned a new nation built upon principles of liberty, representative government, and religious freedom.

Participants appreciated Dr. White’s ability to connect historical events and ideas in a clear and accessible manner, creating a thoughtful and interactive learning environment. The discussion sparked meaningful conversations about the origins of American democratic institutions and the enduring relevance of these foundational principles in contemporary society.

The seminar was so well received that participants unanimously expressed interest in continuing the discussion through a second session. ATFA is pleased to announce plans to organize a follow-up program that will further explore the milestones, challenges, and ideas that have shaped the American experience.

ATFA extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Andrew Walker White for sharing his expertise and passion for history, and to all participants whose thoughtful questions and active engagement contributed to the success of the evening.

As a VA250 Commemorative Partner and an organization committed to civic education, intercultural dialogue, and community engagement, ATFA looks forward to offering additional educational programs that deepen understanding of American history, democratic values, and the diverse experiences that have shaped our nation.

We look forward to welcoming our community to future programs as we continue exploring the history, ideals, and stories that have contributed to the American journey.
